On a pleasant day at Acre Bottom, the 2nd XI faced Enfield in The Lancashire Evening Telegraph Cup. The lads saw this as a massive game after the earlier inconsistencies that have plagued the season so far.

 

After a discussion prior to the match we felt it was important to kick start our batting which has been formidable over the last three seasons. So on winning the toss captain Read elected to bat.

 

The innings started poorly with Sam Price, Chris Wood & Robert Read all falling cheaply. It was now up to the less experienced batters to post a score. Richard Rothwell took responsible and stabilized the innings with an intelligent!!!!!!! 71. Ross Brown (30) & Rizwan Shahid (22) added to Rothwell’s fine work earlier on. Promising all rounder Matty Lees (20 Not out) played an mature innings along side Andy Dalby (14) leaving Enfield a challenging 217 to win.

 

After the interval the lads set about limiting Enfield’s scoring opportunities. With consistent lines and patient bowling, wickets began to fall at regular intervals. With the run rate creeping up all the time, captain Read spread the field and there was no real way back for Enfield. The pick of the bowlers where the opening pair Dalby & Farooq. Gabriel and Holt combined to finish the game off, and see the lads through to yet another Semi-Final.

 

With three of the first five batters failing there is definitely something to build on for the rest of the season.
