Graeme Swann is an aggressive offspinner and a hard-hitting, right-handed, middle-order batsman. He came to prominence with a maiden first-class century for Northants against Leicestershire in 1998 and since then has been promoted to the top order for giving momentum to the innings.
He took 21 wickets at 25.61, and averaged 22 with the bat and these consistent performances were rewarded with selection in the England A team for the tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe. He was called up for the final Test against New Zealand during 1999 but didnt get to play. Later he was rewarded with a place in the team to tour South Africa that winter. He still didnt get to play any test matches but Ashley Giles injury meant that he atleast made his ODI debut.
His off field behavior and conduct is sometimes looked upon as poor attitude. But he is showing signs of behaving himself and concentrating on his game. With 516 runs and 45 wicketsin the last season, he earned an international recall for the one-day series in Sri Lanka, nearly eight years after his debut.
