Scorecard:Burnley v Ramsbottom

DateLine: 19th July 2008

Ramsbottom's title hopes took another denting when they were caught in tricky conditions and were well beaten at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Play was delayed until 3.20 because of heavy overnight rain and the toss was crucial as any side winning it would have a great advantage in the 33 overs per side contest. Unfortunately for stand in skipper Chris Read, he called incorrectly.

Against the medium pace of Sri Lankan professional Kulutunga and Stephen Brunt, Ramsbottom's batsmen found life hard and in the main failed to apply themselves on a wicket of uneven bounce.

Openers Phil Hayes and Keith Webb did manage to add 20 for the opening partnership, but both were removed and were quickly followed first ball by Ramsbottom professional Harwood. This procession continued on a regular basis with only Chris Read standing tall. He remained unbeaten on 31 as both the used Burnley bowlers claimed 5 wickets apiece.

With the wicket playing as it was, Ramsbottom's total of 68 all out could have been a challenge for the struggling hosts, who started the day second bottom of the League. But there was no such worries as Ben Law and Daniel Pickup rode out the early attack and posted 36 in between the showers, which had reduced the target to 55 off 26 overs. Pickup was bowled by Harwood but this just brought in Burnley's paid man who put the result beyond any doubt with a cleanly struck 6 off Harwood.

With two defeats on the spin Ramsbottom need to get back to winning ways if they are to have any chance of keeping up with pace setters Accrington.
