Scorecard: | Church Second XI v Ramsbottom Second XI |
DateLine: 21st July 2008
With the wind howling across the ground Ramsbottom lost the toss and were put into bat. Different from previous weeks, a solid foundation was given by Ross Brown and Sam Price as they endured some early movement off the damp wicket before Price fell to a ball that popped off a length.

Brown, though went after the Church bowling with some aggressive straight hitting, picking up his fifty in quick time. One big shot too many saw him get caught on the boundary edge for 67. Chris Wood back from his appendix operation battled for a well earned 27.
Skipper, Rob Read, in poor form then batted with freedom and aggressively hit 40 including 3 sixes and 3 fours before getting caught which should have been given a no ball for being over head height. Jordan Shannon and Matty Sutton batted excellently at the end with some fine shots and good running.
A great batting performance, one that has been missing all season, hopefully the team can continue this for the rest of the season.
Some fantastic and canny seam and swing bowling by Hassan saw him pick up 4 early wickets, Matty Lees with 2 and Gabriel with 1. Improved fielding counted for 2 run outs and the Church innings was complete, all out for 47.
A performance reminiscent of previous years which hopefully can be reproduced in the second half of the season.(Article: The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author only.
