Bangladesh collapsed to 131 all out in less than three hours to capitulate to an innings and 48 runs to lose the series 2-0 against South Africa. It was not as if the Bangladeshis did not have a chance to redeem themselves in this test, but lack of firepower meant that it proved to be easy for the hosts to get better of them.

 

Resuming at their overnight score of 357/5, the hosts did not last too long against the spin of Shakib Al Hasan, who captured another six-wicket haul; his third successive five-wicket haul. Overnight centurions Ashwell Prince and Mark Boucher resumed their innings but once the latter got out for 117, the South Africans collapsed in a heap. Morne Morkel, M. Zondeki and Makhaya Ntini all scored ducks and the hosts were allout for 429. Prince remained unbeaten on 162.

 

The Bangladeshi story was no different from what they have shown so far. There were three run-outs – including that of captain Mohammad Ashraful – while the rest of the wickets were shared by Ntini, Kallis, Zondeki and Morkel. None of the Bangladeshis were able to match up to the pace and bounce of the bowling, as Raqibul Hasan top-scored with only 28 to his name. In the end, Mashrafe Mortaza blasted an unbeaten 23, but the rest of the tail was flattened and the tourists collapsed to 131 all-out.

 

The South Africans won the series 2-0, but now move to Australia to face a sterner test against the world champions.
