Pro's for Rammy and Hassy
by Nigel Stockley

Player:BA Parchment

DateLine: 1st March 2009

A hectic week on the pro' front has concluded with Ramsbottom and Haslingden both announcing signings. Just 24 hours after losing Shane Harwood Ramsbottom have secured West Indian Brenton Parchment. The 26 year-old is no stranger to Acre Bottom having played there for Ramsbottom in 2005 against Nelson. He has also appeared for his new club at Seedhill and for Colne in 2007 against Todmorden.

In his two Test matches played to date, Parchment has opened the innings both times against South Africa and Australia. He has 2047 runs from 47 First-class matches since making his debut in as a 17 year-old in 1999. His right arm off spin has been used sparingly, picking up just 2 wickets.

In a surprise development Haslingden have signed Ramsbottom batsman Phil Hayes as their new professional. Hayes had originally agreed to play for Elton as professional but both parties agreed to terminate the agreement due to the logistics involved with the player away at Loughborough University. Hayes was then appointed first team skipper at Ramsbottom.

Haslingden Chairman Mark Rothwell said: "Phil has proved himself to be an excellent player and competitor in the Lancashire League. Given the current financial climate we made a decision to look for a UK based player and Phil is as good as any around; we feel he will considerably strengthen our team. He is currently studying at Loughborough University where he is playing the game to a high standard. I fully expect this experience will improve his game and make him an even more accomplished player. Phil is a top lad and I'm certain he will fit in well at Haslingden."
