Biography: | Prior to WW1 he was a member of the family firm of champagne merchants. Major in the 8th Royal Berkshires, wounded at Loos and won the Military Cross (Nov 1915). Fought on the Somme and at Passchendaele. As second-in-command he died on the first day of the German Spring Offensive, along with 41 others of the battalion. None of them have an identified grave. |
