Play did not commence until twelve o'clock and the match was reduced to forty overs a side. After a steady start the New South Wales batsmen went on the attack. Mace and Stanbridge added 61 for the second wicket in thirty-three minutes followed by a further 48 in thirty-four minutes by Mace and O'Sullivan.
