Match notes
After the quick loss of Hynes runs came quite easily to the New South Wales batsmen. The outstanding batting of the opening day was provided by their captain Ken Gulliver who recorded the only century of the match. Dropped at 8 he and Walsh added 126 for the seventh wicket in just 63 minutes. In all Gulliver batted 169 minutes. Hardcastle was the best of the Queensland bowlers, opening at a quite brisk pace and later dropping back to bowling medium pace. Clem flighted the ball well and deserved better figures. The Queensland fielding was poor though Gunthorpe gave a very good display behind the stumps.
Honour held the first Queensland innings together in a stay of 157 minutes, hitting seven fours. Gunthorpe played sensibly in the lower order in a stay of 90 minutes. Following on Gunthorpe opened the innings and stayed into the third day, batting in all for 129 minutes and hitting twelve boundaries, he and Rogers opening with 81. Baker also batted well in the second innings hitting ten fours in a stay of 70 minutes. The Queensland second innings concluded at 3.24 p.m. after just 205 minutes. New South Wales hit off the runs required for outright victory in 88 minutes, Griffin again playing well and hitting nine fours.
