Match notes
Queensland gained the upper hand early in the game though there was some middle order revival. It was not until Watkins joined Walters that New South Wales managed to take control and achieve a winning position. Though showing signs of brilliance at times Walters stroke play at that time was described as being quite agricultural. Still that mattered little for in his innings he hit twenty-two fours and three sixes, one of the sixes landing in Kippax Lake across Driver Avenue.
Queensland also began poorly and four wickets were down for just 65 runs when Seccombe joined Gray and 196 runs were added for the fifth wicket. From there Seccombe continued to record top score of the match. In the end Queensland just managed to save the game for last man Lusk faced four balls from Corling before it was time to draw stumps. With Queensland holding the Sydney Gregory Cup the drawn result allowed them to keep it for another year.
On the opening day Brian King while fielding damaged a cartledge in the knee and was forced to leave the field. As he had not batted or bowled the New South Wales Colts captain allowed DH Seccombe to replace him in the team for the remainder of the match. GR Southwell withdrew from the New South Wales Colts team when he was unable to re-arrange his final examinations in architecture and was replaced by KD Walters.
