Notes
--> WG Grace completed a hat-trick in the Broughton second innings (Barlow, Hickton, Oscroft)

Unable to establish which Payne took the catches of WB Weighell in the United South of England Eleven first innings and GF Elliott in the second innings, or which Payne bowled the unknown overs in the two United South of England Eleven second innings.
WG Grace also took the last wicket of their first innings, he thus completed a sequence of four wickets in four balls.
Additional information from various contemporary newspapers including the Sheffield Daily Telegraph (27 August 1877) and the Sporting Chronicle (28 August 1877) added May 2021.
