Balls per over | 6 |
Toss | No toss made |
Result | Match abandoned |
Points | Hadleigh and Thundersley 6; Westcliff-on-Sea 6 |
Westcliff-on-Sea won the toss and decided to bowl.
For Hadleigh and Thundersley Joe Robbins scored 60 in 69 balls (12 x 4's) and Dan Jackson 32. For Westcliff-on-Sea Tim Wade took 4-32 in 9 overs and Peter Barnes 4-44 in 9 overs. An hour's rain at the start shortened the match to 43 overs a side (60 mins less 15 mins 'grace') = 45 mins = 7 overs lost per side. A further 2 hour rain interval between 14.22-16.24 (during which time tea was taken) occurred. Play then resumed with the Hadleigh innings set still at 43 Overs as per the Match Rules. At the conclusion of the Hadleigh inns (182 all out in 40 overs), it was deemed that as 90 mins of time had been lost (2 hours rain less 30 mins Tea), that the overs to be faced by Westcliff in their innings would be reduced by 26 overs (90/3.5), so that the Westcliff innings would comprise only 17 overs (43-26) which was less than the 20 overs needed to constitute a match. Thus, somewhat contraversially, the match was declared abandoned at this juncture, 6 points each side.
