Rain shortened play by an hour and a half but The Times newspaper conculded that the "unsatisfactory ending was due mainly to two causes, first a belated declaration by the visitors' captain, and secondly to an unfortunate epidemic of dropped catches which attacked the London and Southern side directly the M.C.C. went in to bat."
