Notes
--> The match was scheduled for four days but completed in three.
The match ended in farcical circumstances when the non-striker, Walters, in completing a second run, crashed into the stumps at the bowler's end in order to avoid colliding with the bowler, Carlton. The latter light-heartedly appealed to umpire Lord who astonishingly gave Walters out. Walters refused to leave the crease, and as time was nearly up, the Melbourne captain declared the innings closed, thereby giving North Melbourne an outright victory. Under existing rules, no extra points were allocated to an outright, as opposed to a first innings win, so North Melbourne which had already won on the first innings, gained no extra advantage. The VCA pennant committee ruled that they could not alter the umpire's decision, even though Lord admitted he had made a mistake. This ruling was later upheld by a full meeting of the association.
McCarthy was c Stuckey but the score does not say by which one
