Due to windy conditions the teams agreed to play without bails after 3 wickets had fallen in the Haslingden innings. At the start of the Ramsbottom innings, Haslingden professional Albert Nash brought out a new set of stumps with deep set grooves. Ramsbottom objected and Haslingden agreed to continue without bails. However Nash refused to bowl and was sacked but later re-instated until the end of the season by the Haslingden Committee. He left at the end of the season halfway through a two year contract.
