Surrey 2nd XI won this return match by an innings around 4.00 pm on the second day. For the winners, there were 7 fours in the debutant Ducat's 52. In the Surrey innings, Nightingale and Ducat added 101 runs for the sixth wicket. Vigar, another Surrey debutant, hit 7 fours in his 37 not out. For Lancashire 2nd XI, Williams top scored with 41 which included 4 fours. Due to the non-appearance of the umpires, play started an hour late on the first day with M T Jackson, the Surrey player, and -- Palmer, the Priory Club umpire, standing in until the MCC-appointed umpires arrived and took charge after lunch. When the teams met at Ashton-under-Lyne the previous week, the match had been drawn.
