The game cam to an abrupt halt when the club-house was invaded by the Chief of Police and a force from the sheriff's office. Joseph Dixon, the steward, was arrested and a search of the premises carried out. 50 cases of lager and ale in bottles were confiscated. In the meantime rain had fallen and the games was called off. The management of the club asserted that the liquor was solely for the entertainment of the guests and that no unlawful procedure was contemplated.
