Kenya won the toss and will bowl
Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the third match in the 2007 Cricket World Cup from the West Indies. It is the first time that the World Cup has been hosted on the Caribbean Islands and they have been gearing up for the 16 countries coming in for some time now - in fact, there are a number of new, purpose-built grounds all over the region to welcome the tournament in.
After the spectatular opening ceremony on Sunday evening, it is time for the action to really kick in and today we have the opening clash in Group 'C' sees the 2003 semi-finalists Kenya challenge Canada at the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
The memory might not be what it was but Kenya did indeed reach the semi-finals of the 2003 tournament in South Africa, by hook or by crook! The results went their way and a couple of withdrawals from fixtures in Nairobi and Zimbabwe helped their cause until they came up against India in the semi-final and were well beaten. Canada have some exciting players to watch out for - including the player who hit the fastest ever World Cup century, Australian-born John Davison, big-hitting wicket-keeper batsman Asish Bagai and 40-year-old former West Indiespacemen Anderson Cummins.
The third game of the tournament, at the Beausejour Stadium, will be the ninth match to be staged on this relatively new arena in St Vincent. The first game was won by West Indies against New Zealand in 2002 where the hosts came through by 6 wickets. Zimbabwe were heavily beaten here in the last ODI to be staged here - winning by 10 wickets at a canter.
These two sides met in the 2003 World Cup, Kenya winning by 4 wickets at Cape Town but they have met five times in more recent times and Canada have only won one of them. They did not even show up in Mombassa on 20 January this year as they were the first side ever to pull out of an official ODI because they could not field a team. This was due to an illness that had swept through the team.
The highest individual score for Canada v Kenya is 71 by Iain Billcliff at Cape Town in 2002/2003.
The highest individual score for Kenya v Canada is 68 by Jimmy Kamande in Toronto in 2006.
The best bowling performance for Canada v Kenya is 4-33 by Henry Osinde in Nairobi in 2006/2007.
The best bowling performance for Kenya v Canada is 5-51 by Peter Ongondo at Nairobi in 2006/2007.
Two umpires who got to know each other during the Commonwealth Bank series in Australia a couple of months ago are in charge here. Pakistani Asad Rauf is partnering Australian Peter Parker with Billy Doctrove in the TV seat and Rudi Koertzen is the fourth man. Mike Procter is the match referee.
Canada Team for the match is Geoff Barnett, Abdool Samad, Ashish Bagai, Ian Billcliff, John Davison (capt), Ashif Mulla, Sunil Dhaniram, George Codrington, Umar Bhatti, Anderson Cummins, Henry Osinde
