Buckinghamshire won this match shortly after 4.00 pm on the second day by an innings and 169 runs, after Northamptonshire followed-on 230 runs behind. The margin of victory was the biggest of the season. This was the first Championship match played at the new County Ground at Aylesbury, and the pitch was reported to be very much in favour of the bowlers on the second day. For the winners, Nash took 14 wickets in the match for 100 runs, which was statistically the best match bowling performance of the season. He took 7 wickets for 64 runs in the visitors' first innings and 7 for 36 in the second. Saunders's 114 included 9 fours, 5 threes and 18 twos, scored in around 3¼ hours. He and Woodbridge put on exactly 100 runs for the fourth wicket in the Buckinghamshire innings. The 3 stumpings by Cobb in an innings and 4 in a match were both highest of the season and new records for the competition. Cobb was to equal the new record of 4 stumpings in a match in the game v Berkshire at Aylesbury in August. The 117 runs conceded by Thompson in the home team's innings were the most during the season. In the Buckinghamshire innings, the Northamptonshire wicket-keeper, Smith, received a blow on his hand when the score was 285 for 6 wickets, and was forced to retire. His place behind the stumps was taken by Scriven, and Langley acted as substitute fielder and held the catch to dismiss Robinson. The game was played in what one newspaper report described as "tropical weather".
