For the winners, debutant Clayton's 112 included 1 six, 17 fours, 2 threes and 7 twos, while Simpson's 64 contained 13 fours and Hansell's 51 9 fours. Clayton and Simpson put on 134 runs for the first wicket in the second Northumberland innings. It was the highest first wicket partnership of the season. The visitor's score of 263-5 was the highest fourth innings total of the season and Clayton's 112 the highest individual innings. Both were records for the competition. For the home team, Colson's 119 contained 13 fours, 4 threes and 6 twos. There were 7 fours in Thompson's 67, and 9 fours in H E Kingston's 59.
