This return match was drawn, the game in June at Jesmond having been won by Durham. The match aggregate of 970 runs was the highest of the season. Three batsmen scored centuries, Clayton and Hansell for Northumberland and Bousfield for Durham. For the visitors, Clayton scored 113 in just over two hours, with 1 six, 20 fours, and 1 two, and 67, with 1 six and 11 fours, Hansell scored 103 in 90 minutes, with 19 fours and 1 three, and 55, with 11 fours, and Simpson's 51 included 8 fours. In the Northumberland second innings, Clayton and Hansell put on 102 for the second wicket. Bousfield's 128 for Durham, an innings which lasted 150 minutes, contained 24 fours and 2 twos. Clayton's run aggregate of 180 for the match was the highest of the season, and a new record for the competition. Hansell's run aggregate of 158 was the third highest.
