Worcestershire won this low-scoring return match by 3 wickets at 3.50 pm on the second day. The previous game between the two teams at Northampton in June had been drawn. Requiring 88 runs to win in their second innings, Worcestershire lost their first five wickets for 37 runs, and a Northamptonshire victory seemed possible. However, Wheldon and Fereday took the score to 70 and only one further wicket fell before the match was won. For the losers, Thompson took 10 wickets in the match for 76 runs, including 7 for 50 in the Worcestershire first innings. Colson top-scored in the match with 41. For the winners, Bird took 9 wickets for 50 runs, including 7 for 27 in the Northamptonshire second innings, and Arnold 8 for 60. The margin of victory of three wickets was the smallest of the season for any match.
