With Norfolk following on 91 runs behind, Durham won this return match at 12.15 pm on the second day, thus reversing the result of the game played at Durham City earlier in the month. The defeat, Norfolk's first of the season, deprived the home county of a share of the Championship. For the victors, W F Whitwell took 10 wickets for 55 runs and Turnbull 9 for 52.
There were 7 fours in W S Dobson's 50. Newspaper reports indicate the pitch wore badly on the first day, and on the second morning with a heavy dew and hot sun batting became hazardous. The Norfolk second innings score of 39 was the lowest of the season, as was the aggregate of 366 runs for a completed match.
