This return match was drawn. Surrey 2nd XI had won the game between the two teams at Gateshead earlier in the month. For Durham, E W Elliot's 126 was scored in under 80 minutes and included 22 fours, 3 threes and 1 two. There were 12 fours in C L Dobson's 76 and 6 fours in Bousfield's 64. In the Durham second innings, Bousfield and E W Elliot put on 194 runs for the second wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. In the first innings Welch and Turnbull added 50 runs for the last wicket. For Surrey 2nd XI, Stoner's 124, an innings of over four hours, included 14 fours, 9 threes and 12 twos, and L Walker's 54 contained 10 fours. In the Surrey innings, Stoner and Walker added 83 runs for the seventh wicket, and Stoner and Kersley had a partnership of 87 for the Surrey eighth wicket. During his second innings, E W Elliot became the first Durham player to pass the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches.
