This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project - research is continuing on this scorecard which can be expected to change.
Yorkshire 2nd XI won this match, after Staffordshire followed on 211 runs behind, by seven wickets on the second day. For the visitors, there were 22 fours, 1 three and 8 twos in Washington's 134, an innings of one hour and 45 minutes. Frank's 54 not out included 9 fours and he batted for just 50 minutes. Riley took 10 wickets in the match for 110 runs, including 7 for 39 in the Staffordshire first innings. In the Yorkshire first innings, Washington and Chapman put on 121 runs for the second wicket, and Frank and Wilson added 73 runs for the last wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. For the losers, Hollowood's 109, scored in 1¾ hours, contained 1 six, 17 fours, 1 three and 4 twos. In the Staffordshire second innings, Hollowood and Hassall added 64 runs for the eighth wicket, which was the third highest partnership for that wicket during the year. Grimshaw took 3 wickets in 4 balls in the Yorkshire first innings. Yorkshire 2nd XI had not entered the Championship, but in order for Staffordshire to qualify for the Championship Table by playing a minimum of 8 matches, it was agreed before the start of the season that the latter's matches against the former should be counted as competition games. The games between Yorkshire 2nd XI and Surrey 2nd XI, one of which was abandoned without play, were also included. Yorkshire 2nd XI were the only team in 1900 to play championship matches, but not be included in the Championship Table.
