Glamorgan won this close return match by just one wicket shortly before 4.30 pm on the second day. The game between the two teams at Newport in June had been drawn. The ninth Glamorgan second-innings wicket fell when the scores were tied, so Lowe had to bat. W H Brain hit a single off Steeples to win the match. For the winners W H Brain's match-winning innings of 57 included 7 fours and Riches 54 contained 2 fours. For Monmouthshire, Silverlock took 11 wickets in the match for 85 runs.
Robathan top-scored with 46. On the first day Stedman was not at the ground when the ninth Monmouthshire wicket fell and forfeited his innings. In the Glamorgan second innings with the score at 40 for 1, P C Phillips took over the wicket-keeping duties from Mayes who had conceded 16 extras. An alternative version of this score found in the South Wales Daily News and South Wales Echo, but not in any other of the sources listed, gives in the Monmouthshire first innings Griffiths caught Lowe, Steeples caught W H Brain and Mayes caught W H Brain, and in the Glamorgan first innings Russell caught Mayes and Preece caught Mayes
[Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; in Glamorgan 1st inns fall of eighth wicket.]
