Bedfordshire won by an innings and 219 runs shortly before 3.00 pm on the second day. The margin of victory was the second largest of the season. The Cambridgeshire team were without Gray, Hayward, Swann-Mason and Watts. The start on Thursday was delayed by rain until 1.10 pm. For the winners, there was 1 six, 15 fours, 13 threes and ? twos in Wharmby's 163 not out, scored in ? minutes, and 1 six, 16 fours,? threes and ? twos in B L Peel's 131. In the Bedfordshire innings they put on 257 runs for the second wicket, which was a new Championship record exceeding the 240 added by H R Elliot and E W Elliot for Durham against Northumberland in early June. Wharmby's 163 not out was the third highest individual innings of the season. T A Brown took 11 wickets in the match for 71 runs. The Bedfordshire total of 399 was the third highest of the season. For Cambridgeshire, Bryan took 7 wickets for 115 runs in the Bedfordshire innings, and Gilbert top-scored with 30. The 115 runs conceded by Bryan were the second most in an innings during the season.
