Northamptonshire won this return match by 100 runs at 5.55 pm on the second day. The rain-interrupted game between the two sides at Halifax in July had been drawn. For the winners, East took 12 wickets in the match for 72 runs. There were no boundaries in Cox's 51. For the losers in their second innings, Higgins and Hartington put on 61 for the ninth wicket, which was the third highest partnership for that wicket during the season. The ball to which Norman was out leg before wicket in the Northamptonshire second innings gave him a painful crack on the leg and he had to be assisted from the field. R C Fowler fielded as substitute for Norman in the Yorkshire 2nd XI second innings and caught Wilkinson. In the Yorkshire first innings, the last three wickets fell on the morning of the second day for no addition to the overnight score.
