Wiltshire won this return match mid-afternoon on the second day by 9 wickets. The match between the two sides at Exeter the previous week had also been won by Wiltshire by the same margin. For the winners, there were 3 sixes and 15 fours in Stevens's 99, 1 six and 9 fours in Ransome's 78 and 1 six and 11 fours in Perkins's 73. In the Wiltshire first innings, Stevens and Perkins put on 163 runs for the first wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. For Devon, Copleston's 64 not out included 1 six and 10 fours, Sandford's 59 contained 10 fours and Morgan's 56 included 8 fours. In the Devon first innings, Morgan and Aggett added 91 runs for the sixth wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. The 605 runs scored on the first day were a new Championship record, exceeding the 581 runs scored in the Glamorgan v Berkshire match at Cardiff in 1899. The match aggregate of 823 runs was the third highest of the season. In the Devon second innings, six batsmen were dismissed without scoring.
