Monmouthshire won by 85 runs at 3.15 pm on the second day. For the winners Diver scored 52. In their second innings Dorset needed 152 runs to win in over 4 hours. Press reports were critical of the wicket that was felt not be up to county standard. On the first afternoon, the majority of the South African touring team came across from Bournemouth, where they were preparing for the Teat Match beginning at Lord's on Monday, to watch the match. With P F C Williams abroad, Greenhill was appointed Dorset Captain for the season.
