This return match was won by Lincolnshire by an innings and 16 runs early in the afternoon on the second day. The match between the two teams at West Hartlepool in June had been drawn. For the winners, there were 6 fours in Broughton's 67 and 5 fours in Williams's 56. In the Lincolnshire innings, Williams and Cooke added 80 runs for the eighth wicket. Broughton also took 7 wickets for 52 runs in the Durham second innings. Stoner was absent hurt in the Durham second innings, having been hit on the head by a return drive when bowling to Williams which forced him to withdraw from the match.
