Northumberland won this return match at 12.40 pm on the second day. The margin of victory was the closest of the season for a team batting first. The outcome was a surprise as the home side had led by 51 runs on first innings. The match between the two sides at Jesmond in June had been drawn. For the winners, there were 3 sixes and 9 fours in Cumberlege's 69. He reached his fifty in 35 minutes. Norbury's 43 not out contained 2 sixes and 4 fours. For the losers, Broadbent took 11 matches in the match for 110 runs, including 7 for 39 in the Northumberland first innings. Hardy top-scored with 38. Over a thousand paying spectators attended during the two days. Receipts were over £38.
