This return match was drawn, after the Wiltshire declaration set Buckinghamshire a victory target of 396 runs in under 4 hours. Amid scenes of growing excitement, the last pair -- Wright and Vickerstaff -- held on for 15 minutes to save the match. The match at Bletchley 10 days before had been won by Wiltshire. For the home side, Mitchell took 14 wickets in the match for 172 runs. Awdry scored 96, 8 fours in each of A W Newman's two innings of 55 and 72, and Overton scored 59. For Buckinghamshire, Edwards scored 74 and Wright 54 not out. In the Wiltshire first innings Lowndes was given out lbw, but recalled at the suggestion of Miller. In the same innings, the umpire Hughes had to retire after being hit on the ankle by a drive from Overton, and Miller temporarily took over his duties. Shortly before the start of the second Buckinghamshire innings, Shail received a telegram notifying him of an accident to his child, and he returned to Swindon. C G Fraser, the Chippenham wicket-keeper,agreed to take his place, but Lowndes declined to let him keep wicket. He caught Orton in the outfield. The 18 maidens Wright bowled in the Wiltshire first innings were the joint second highest of the season. The match aggregate of 1038 runs was the second highest of the season.
