Surrey 2nd XI won this opening match of the season by four wickets, after the Glamorgan declaration set Surrey a victory target of 250 runs in 3ΒΌ hours. This was seen as a rather premature declaration but a rain delay of 25 minutes made it a more difficult challenge. However Abel 'hit with such vigour' that the victory came at 7 minutes to 6pm. His 132 came in only 75 minutes and included 2 sixes, 2 fives, and 17 fours. He added 104 for the sixth wicket with Blacklidge in 45 minutes. There was 1 five and 1 seven in Wilkinson's 63. For the losers, there were 9 fours and 12 fours respectively in Bancroft's two innings of 62 and 81. Riches 71 contained 1 six and 5 fours and Morris's 55 included 7 fours.
