Cheshire won this return match by 3 wickets on the second day. The match between the two sides at Jesmond in June had been won by Northumberland. For the winners Wright made an excellent debut scoring 67 not out to steer Cheshire to victory. This was the only half century in the match. Smoker took 7 wickets for 68 runs in Northumberland's first innings. Moorhouse took four catches in the match. For the losers Marshall ad to retir on 1 in the second innings but resumed his innings on the following day coming in as last man. He was unable to take the field in Cheshire's second innings and G Hares substituted. Elsey took 6 wickets for 43 runs in Cheshire's first innings.
