The match between the two sides at Jesmond in June had been drawn. For the winners, Briggs's 85 contained 5 fours and Wilson's 50, scored in 35 minutes, included 4 fours. Deyes was the home side's most successful bowler taking 7 wickets in the match for 81 runs. In the Staffordshire second innings, Cook and Wilson put on 56 runs for the eighth wicket. For the losers, Milne took 9 wickets in the match for 112 runs. Richardson top scored with 38 not out. S F Barnes was absent on Test match duty.
