Devon won this match by 4 wickets a few minutes after 6 pm on the second day, making the highest score of the match in their second innings. Play did not start until 11.50 am on the second day due to rain when, with the agreement of both captains, a new pitch was cut. For the winners, Light scored 52 not out whilst Webb took 7 wickets for 43 runs in Devon's first innings. For Dorset Harrison top-scored with 55. Fishwick took 7 wickets for 23 runs in Dorset's second innings and Light took 5 wickets for 17 runs in their first. The Devon wicket-keeper Davies was struck a severe blow on the jaw by Sewell's bat when the batsman missed a pull shot towards the end of the first day and Carroll took his place behind the stumps. Dorset's Bolton fielded as a substitute.
