Lincolnshire won this return match by four wickets on the second day. The match between the two sides at Crewe the previous week had also been won by Lincolnshire. For the winners, Broughton played the highest innings with 41, including 1 six and 4 fours. He also took 6 wickets for 34 runs in the Cheshire first innings. For the losers, Smoker scored 70. When he had scored 16 in the Lincolnshire first innings, Hemingway mis-timed a slow ball from Buxton and hurt his jaw. He retired to receive attention in the pavilion, but bandaged he returned to bat at the fall of the fourth wicket.
