Notes
--> W Bedster (1) passed his previous highest score of 34 in First-Class matches
--> N Mann (1) passed his previous highest score of 27 in First-Class matches
--> RA Veck (2) passed 500 runs in First-Class matches when he reached 21
--> R Nyren reached 50 wickets in First-Class matches when taking his 1st wicket in the Surrey first innings
The full score of this match, which escaped Epps, Haygarth, Ashley-Cooper and Waghorn, was discovered by Martin Wilson. It was reproduced in the ACS journal in March 2010, which is believed to have been its first appearance in print since its initial publication in the General Advertiser for 1 October 1778. Surrey had Miller as a given man. If the batting order is correct (and it looks very plausible), Bedster carried his bat in Surrey (1).
