Tied return match which was the third time this had happened in a championship match. With just one run needed for victory and 3 wickets in hand a win for Bedfordshire looked certain, but the last three wickets all fell at the score of 126, two to Penfold and one to Gorell Barnes. The match had seen Rice being summoned from his hotel where he was resting from a heart ailment and coming out to bat as eleventh man in his ordinary attire. He played out a maiden from Gorell Barnes, but Peel who had kept Bedfordshire's hopes alive almost single-handedly was then caught in the slips off Penfold. For Suffolk, F T D Wilson scored 50 which contained 7 fours, while for Bedfordshire Peel scored 77. The substitute catch in the Bedfordshire innings was held by J N Goldsmith, who was fielding while H L Wilson was temporarily indisposed. The match between the two sides at Bedford earlier in the season had been drawn.
[Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; in Bedfordshire first innings fall of eighth and ninth wickets; in Bedfordshire second innings boundaries in Peel's 77; precise time completed.]
